Can Smoking Be Reduced and Then Quit, and What Are the Methods for Reduction?
There are people for whom this method is effective and who genuinely quit smoking by reducing it.
The most impactful aspect of quitting smoking is nicotine withdrawal. If we simply list the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, they include anger, irritability, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, increased appetite, weight gain, constipation, and similar issues. We encounter these symptoms, which we call nicotine withdrawal symptoms, in individuals who abstain from smoking for 24 hours or who reduce their smoking. A person who reduces their smoking is someone who constantly experiences nicotine withdrawal symptoms. We call this continuous torture. Therefore, one should quit smoking once and for all. I do not believe that quitting smoking by reducing it is the right approach. Individuals should quit smoking directly.
Methods for Reducing Smoking
However, there is a truth that must not be forgotten: a large proportion, around 99%, of individuals who attempt to quit smoking by reducing it have returned to smoking more than before. When smoking is reduced, the next cigarette is perceived almost as a reward, which leads to a greater craving for cigarettes. Our psychological addiction to smoking will increase even further. Every smoker must reduce their smoking. However, quitting by reducing it is nothing more than deceiving yourself and will only make the process more painful. This is because it is impossible to get rid of smoking before nicotine is completely cleared from our bodies. One typical behavior observed in people who reduce smoking is that even when they smoke a little, they inhale the smoke more deeply. Even if they smoke fewer cigarettes in number, they are getting more smoke, meaning more nicotine, in terms of quality. However, smoking less is beneficial in terms of being less affected by the harms of smoking. During the smoking cessation phase, even a single cigarette smoked per day is sufficient to meet the body's nicotine needs. This single cigarette is enough to maintain our addiction. If you have the idea of quitting smoking without torturing yourself, quit all at once. This is how you will be freed from the harms of smoking. If you smoke a lot, you must at least reduce your smoking. Because each extra cigarette smoked causes significant harm to our bodies. Furthermore, the more we smoke, the more it strains our budget. To reduce smoking, we must first change our smoking habits. For example, the first cigarette we light when we wake up in the morning is very important. The later we light this cigarette, the less we will smoke. Let us offer a few suggestions for reducing your smoking.
– If we smoke at home, at work, or anywhere, let's change that. Let's avoid smoking in places where we sit comfortably. If we are at home, let's smoke on the kitchen balcony, and if we are at work, let's go outside to smoke. You will see that your cigarette consumption decreases this way.
– Let's avoid smoking while sitting at the computer. We unconsciously smoke a lot in front of technological devices like computers.
– Let's stay away from environments where alcohol is consumed. Because the number of cigarettes we smoke with alcohol is quite high.
– Let's not enter environments where a lot of smoking occurs. Places like coffee houses involve a lot of smoking.
– Let's not smoke offered cigarettes. Friends or anyone else may offer a cigarette when they light up. You can politely refuse this. This way, you will reduce your smoking.
