Examinations performed in CFD analysis

When an engineer is tasked with designing a new product, e.g. a winning race car for the next season, aerodynamics plays a crucial role in the engineering process. We perform your CFD analyses thanks to our expert company, which provides detailed information about these descriptions. However, aerodynamic processes are not easily measurable in the concept phase. Often, the only way for an engineer to optimize their designs is to conduct physical tests on product prototypes. With the advent of computers and ever-increasing computing power (thanks to Moore's law!), the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics has become a widely used tool to produce solutions for fluid flows with or without solid interaction.

Variables in CFD analysis

In a CFD analysis, the fluid flow is examined according to its physical properties such as velocity, pressure, temperature, density, and viscosity. To produce an almost complete solution for a physical phenomenon associated with fluid flow without compromising accuracy, these properties must be considered simultaneously. A mathematical model of the physical situation and a numerical method are used in a software tool to analyze the fluid flow. For example, the Navier-Stokes equations are stated as the mathematical model of the physical situation. This explains the changes in all these physical properties for both fluid flow and heat transfer. The mathematical model varies depending on the content of the problem, such as heat transfer, mass transfer, phase change, chemical reaction, etc. Furthermore, the reliability of a CFD analysis depends largely on the entire structure of the process. Validation of the mathematical model is extremely important to create an accurate case to solve the problem. In addition, determining the appropriate numerical methods to create a path throughout the solution is as important as the mathematical model. The software in which the analysis is carried out is one of the key elements in creating a sustainable product development process, as the quantity of physical prototypes can be greatly reduced.
